ISNOTDEAD SS13

FILM

0.1 is the first campaign film created for ISNOTDEAD, for the Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

Conceived as a sequence of black-and-white studio tableaux, the film stages the first visual mythology of the brand: a world suspended between primitive ritual and contemporary fashion, between archaic gesture and urban tension.

The collection is revealed through a series of fixed scenes — dance, white magic, trance-like gestures, bodies arranged in space, figures gathered as if taking part in a secret ceremony. Each tableau seems to exist outside ordinary time, like the fragment of a ritual whose meaning is never fully explained.

At the centre of the film, writer Jean-Bernard Pouy, known for his noir and crime fiction, appears as a silent mental presence. It is as if the images emerging on screen were coming from the imagination of a novelist: scenes of bodies, omens, suspended gestures and post-apocalyptic landscapes slowly forming inside his thoughts.

The film alternates between these ritualised human scenes and more atmospheric visions: buildings rising vertically from dust, ruins reversing their own destruction, fragments of a world that seems to rebuild itself after collapse.

Between fashion film, studio performance, noir fiction and primitive ceremony, 0.1 lays the foundations for the first visual language of ISNOTDEAD: a brand looking for a bridge between the raw and the contemporary, the tribal and the urban, the sacred and the post-industrial.

PROCESS

For 0.1, the film was conceived as a series of static tableaux shot in studio, then assembled into a single horizontal movement.

Rather than filming a conventional sequence of cuts, Alexandre Carril chose to organise the images as a long scrolling panorama — a continuous lateral strip, reminiscent of early moving panoramas and pre-cinematic devices in which painted scenes would unfold horizontally before the viewer.

This formal choice gives the film the feeling of a visual scroll, a ritual frieze or an ancient cinematic band slowly passing before our eyes. The camera does not enter the scenes; the scenes appear, slide, disappear and re-emerge, as if the film were reading itself from left to right.

The fixed-frame tableaux allow each gesture to become almost symbolic. The bodies are not filmed as fashion poses, but as figures within a ceremony. Dance, stillness, magic, writing and reconstruction all become part of the same visual language.

The collaboration with Victor Carril, co-founder and designer of ISNOTDEAD, was essential to this first campaign film. Together, the film and the collection begin to define the brand’s identity: a tension between fashion and ritual, youth and darkness, contemporary clothing and more ancient forms of presence.

The soundtrack reinforces this ceremonial dimension, giving the film the rhythm of an invocation. Its sound world does not simply accompany the images; it seems to summon them.

As the first campaign film for ISNOTDEAD, 0.1 established a foundational method: using fashion cinema not only to present clothing, but to invent a symbolic universe around a brand. It introduced an approach that would continue to evolve in later collaborations — constructing atmospheres, bodies, gestures and fragments of fiction as the visual extension of a collection.
